Bones and Shadows – a sample

“Bones and Shadows” was written by Nebraska poet (Pushcart Prize winning poet!) John Philip Johnson and appeared in comic book form illustrated by Bob Hall (DC/Marvel legend). During covid I wanted a film project that didn’t require spending time in close quarters with multiple people so I did a Ken Burns treatment to the scanned pages. I liked it, John liked it, Bob liked it, and those that have seen it at film festivals also spoken well of it. This is an excerpt from the 5 minute piece.

Eat Like a Grand Master – a sample

A scene I really wanted to capture and I smile every time I watch it. The cast really captured it and the score (by Garrett Hope) was icing.

Jesse’s Chili – a sample

I had early ’60s Twilight Zone in my head when I made this, my first short film, and I summoned my inner Rod S. for the tractor death scene. This scene was the first time I was behind the camera and I’m very happy with my focus shift to the chicken wire and back. I was also happy that my wanting to work with not one, but two animals actually came off well.
